Prodigal the Musical

Seeking to discredit Jesus as the Messiah, a trio of Scribes and Pharisees accuse him of violating Mosaic Law by sharing a meal with tax collectors and sinners.  Jesus answers the accusation with two parables, one about a lost sheep and the other about a lost coin.  Though sheep and coins have clear value in the eyes of the Pharisees, sinners do not.  Could Jesus be making a mistake? jesus then tells them a parable about a man and his two sons.  The younger son asks that the Father pay him his share of his inheritance so that he can leave home.  His father obliges and the younger “prodigal,” or wasteful, son, takes his money and journeys to a far country where he becomes one of the most reprehensible sinners imaginable.  When he returns home in disgrace the father becomes a living picture of the most scandalous love of all, toward both this younger prodigal son, and even more surprising, to his older son as well.
